BROWN RECLAIMS OUA TITLE, WOMEN FINISH SECOND
« Back

October 25, 2008 - Varsity Blues fourth-year standout Megan Brown claimed the women’s individual title and was named this year’s cross country MVP at the 2008 OUA cross country championships on Saturday, October 25 in Kingston.

Brown also helped the University of Toronto women’s cross country team to a silver medal performance, while the men finished fourth at the Fort Henry Hill race course.

In the women's 5km race, Brown (Guelph, Ont.) dominated with a time of 17:26, 34 seconds ahead of Guelph Gryphons Lindsay Carson (Cambridge, Ont.), to claim her second individual OUA title. She won her first OUA cross country crown in 2006.

Brown has had great success at Fort Henry Hill. In the Queen’s Invitational earlier this season, she established a new course record.

"Today was one of the strongest runs I've ever run," said Brown. "I ran exactly to my fitness and I'm in the best shape of my life right now. I'm very pleased with where I'm at."

Third place went to Blues first-year sensation Tamara Jewett (Toronto, Ont.) who finished with a time of 18:24.6, while Waterloo native Erin McClure was fourth in a time of 18:31.1

The Blues women’s team finished in second-place with a total score of 64 points, 17 points behind the Guelph Gryphons, who were successful in defending their OUA title.

On the men’s side, Mike Delmonte (Guelph, Ont.) led the Blues, finishing in 12th place with a time of 34:07.8. Etienne Bredin (Oakville, Ont.) followed, posting a time of 34.18 and picking up a 15th place finish. Fifth-year veterans Jeffrey Barr (Oakville, Ont.) and Josh Smith (Chatham, Ont.), as well as second-year runner Tyler Pettes (Aurora, Ont.) also raced for the Blues, finishing in 20th, 25th and 26th, respectively.

As a team, Toronto finished in fourth place with a total of 98 points.
